New Delhi: Pakistan has formally invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the forthcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting, slated for October in Islamabad.
During a weekly news briefing, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan has sent invitations to all SCO member state leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the upcoming Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting in Islamabad.
Baloch also mentioned that Islamabad has received several confirmations for the SCO event, which Pakistan will host on October 15-16.
This official statement about Pakistan’s invitations to SCO state leaders followed Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s declaration that PM Modi would be invited to the summit.
Contrary to this, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had previously refuted media claims that PM Modi would skip the SCO summit in Pakistan.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, an enduring intergovernmental international body, was founded on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, succeeding the Shanghai Five mechanism.
The SCO presently comprises nine Member States: India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
