Bhubaneswar: A great son of Odisha, an outstanding engineer and doyen infrastructure building , a person who has worked for renovation and preservation of heritages like Jagannath Temple and many more, Padamshree Professor (Dr) Gopal Chandra Mitra, passed away yesterday at 5 pm at his Shaheed Nagar Residence after prolonged illness.
He was 85.
Post super cyclone 1999 design and construction of about 860 Cyclone Shelter that now saves millions from such disasters credit goes to him. Iconic structures such as Indoor Stadium at Cuttack and many more bear testimony to his design and execution capabilities.
Holding Indian Road Congress in Odisha and present IRC village He has done a lot for FCI, HAL, IPICOLÂ and IDCO. Finally, he retired as Engineer in Chief and Work Secretary a quarter Century back.
When he was a Superintendent Engineer and did his Masters and PhD from his Almamater IIT Kharagpur from where he got his B Tech Degree in 1959.
