Kalahandi: One more elephant died near Ghusurigudi drain under the Karlapat Sanctuary in Kalahandi district on Sunday. With this, the total number of deaths reached to 6.
Reportedly, the elephant was suffering from septicemia, sources said.
Though the exact reason of the death is yet to be ascertained, the Forest Department officials said that hemorrhagic septicemia might be the reason behind the death of elephants.
Notably, on Saturday, a team, headed by Prof Niranjan Sahu, from Centre for Wildlife Health of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) inspected the area.
It is worth mentioning that the carcass of one full-grown elephant was found at the Karlapat wildlife Sanctuary on Friday morning. Similarly, on February 1 and 8, carcasses of two elephants were found at the same spot.
