In a landmark move towards ensuring safer roads across the state, Odisha has unveiled several key initiatives aimed at tackling traffic-related risks and preventing accidents.

A high-level meeting chaired by Principal Secretary, Commerce and Transport Department Usha Padhee focused on reviewing and implementing strategies to enhance road safety.

One of the standout initiatives introduced during the meeting is the Zero Accident Day (ZAD) program, which is set to roll out soon. This ambitious program focuses on minimising road fatalities by addressing key risk factors and enforcing strict road safety policies.

The Chintan Sibira event, fully supported by the Odisha Government, is expected to serve as a crucial forum where experts and stakeholders will discuss actionable strategies to improve road safety measures. Transport officials, road safety consultants, and policymakers will participate, aiming to foster innovation and data-driven solutions.

Recognising the importance of skilled professionals in reducing road accidents, Prof. Venkatesh Balasubramanian from IIT Madras proposed structured training programs for master trainers, investigation officers, healthcare personnel, and teachers. These capacity-building sessions will equip stakeholders with essential knowledge to prevent accidents and promote road safety awareness.

To facilitate continuous monitoring and improvement, officials emphasised the development of a dynamic dashboard that provides real-time data on road safety trends. The dashboard will enable decision-makers to track progress and identify key areas for intervention.

The meeting concluded with a well-defined roadmap for executing these initiatives. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening road safety policies and ensuring safer transportation for all. With the introduction of these measures, Odisha is set to become a model state in accident prevention and traffic management.

This comprehensive strategy marks a new era for Odisha’s road network, bringing together expert insights, innovative technology, and community-driven efforts to significantly reduce road accidents in the coming years.
