Chief Secretary Anu Garg reviewed the progress of rural drinking water projects in Odisha during a meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan on Tuesday.

The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department presented detailed updates on both ongoing and completed projects across districts.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary S.N. Girish, along with senior engineers from various districts, outlined the implementation status of multiple schemes. Garg emphasised the need to resolve water supply issues in certain areas and directed officials to accelerate the completion of construction projects.

Moreover, officials reported that 18,233 projects have already been completed under the Single Village Piped Water Supply Project system, while 872 remain under implementation. In addition, 6,435 projects under the Solar Project have been completed, and 2,189 are still underway.

Furthermore, the state continues to advance mega projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Vasudha, Rural Infrastructure Development Fund, and Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC). Out of 207 approved mega projects, 26 have been completed, and 181 are under construction. The meeting also reviewed 134 projects that have crossed the halfway mark.

During the review, Garg examined projects in Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh districts, where several mega piped water supply projects are in progress. She instructed officials to meet set targets and push forward with greater urgency.

Finally, the Commissioner and Secretary of the department confirmed that regular inter-departmental reviews and corrective actions are underway to ensure early completion. Odisha aims to strengthen rural water infrastructure and guarantee safe drinking water for all communities.
