Odisha is set to experience its first real taste of winter this season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a noticeable drop in night temperatures across the state over the coming days, with Bhubaneswar likely to touch 17°C and Cuttack around 16°C by mid-next week.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, the minimum temperature is expected to fall by 2°C to 3°C over the next two to three days, with stable conditions thereafter. The forecast suggests that cooler, pleasant nights will continue across both interior and coastal Odisha until November 15.
Why Temperatures Are Falling
Meteorologists attribute the temperature dip to clear skies and dry north-easterly winds, marking the seasonal transition from post-monsoon humidity to early winter.
As per IMD data, dry weather prevails statewide with no significant synoptic system influencing Odisha’s skies. On Saturday night, Phulbani recorded the lowest temperature at 12.5°C, while Nayagarh saw the highest maximum at 34°C.
At 8:30 a.m. on November 8, Bhubaneswar reported 32.3°C (maximum) and 18.9°C (minimum). The temperature has dropped by nearly 2°C to 3°C in several interior districts such as Sundargarh and Kalahandi, where early-morning fog was also observed.
Interior Odisha Turns Colder
The IMD bulletin highlights that north interior Oodishadisha is already 4°C below normal, while other regions show a 1–2°C fall. Some southern districts, however, remain slightly warmer due to residual humidity.
Overall, Odisha has entered a noticeably cooler phase, especially in interior belts that are cooling faster than coastal plains.
Bhubaneswar & Cuttack Weather Outlook
For Bhubaneswar, the IMD predicts fog or mist in the early morning, followed by clear skies and sunny afternoons. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 32°C, with the minimum dropping to 17°C by mid-week.
In Cuttack, residents can expect similar conditions — mild morning fog, clear daytime weather, and night temperatures near 16°C.
Winter Begins to Set In
The steady decline in temperatures signals that winter is setting in across Odisha. With clear skies, light winds, and lower humidity, residents can look forward to crisp, pleasant evenings and a welcome break from the humid post-monsoon weather.
