The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a high alert for Odisha, predicting that a low-pressure area will intensify into a depression within the next 12 hours.
The system is expected to track west-northwest towards northern Odisha, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts.
Red Alert for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj
Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are set to witness extremely heavy rainfall, prompting a Red Alert. Authorities have been advised to brace for flooding, waterlogging, and landslide risks.
Orange Warning for 10 Districts
An Orange Warning has been issued for the following districts:
Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, and local administrations have been instructed to prepare for emergency response and evacuation measures if required.
Yellow Alert for Remaining Districts
The rest of Odisha remains under a Yellow Alert, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in scattered areas. People are advised to exercise caution, especially in low-lying and landslide-prone regions.
