The Odisha Vigilance Department apprehended Dharanidhar Nath, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police at Talcher Police Station in Angul District, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3,000.
The sting operation unfolded after a complainant reported that Nath, the Investigating Officer in his case, had demanded the bribe while threatening arrest if the payment was not made. Acting swiftly on the complaint, Vigilance officers set up a trap and caught Nath red-handed as he accepted the bribe money.
The entire sum of Rs. 3,000 was recovered and seized from Nath’s possession, serving as critical evidence in the case. Following the apprehension, the Vigilance Department registered Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 18/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Concurrently, searches are underway at two locations linked to Nath to investigate potential disproportionate assets, indicating a deeper probe into his financial dealings.
