In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance officials have apprehended Asit Pattanayak, Deputy Ranger of Bisra Forest Range, Rourkela Forest Division, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000.
The bribe was taken from a vehicle owner in exchange for releasing hire charges for a pre-engaged official vehicle used in April 2025, along with an assurance to re-engage the same vehicle from May 1, 2025. The complainant, left with no alternative, reported the matter to the vigilance authorities, leading to a swift operation.
Officials caught Pattanayak red-handed, recovering the entire tainted bribe money and seizing it. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches have begun at four locations linked to the accused, investigating possible disproportionate assets (DA).
A case has been registered at Rourkela Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 07 dt. 20.05.2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
This incident adds to a series of vigilance operations aimed at eradicating corruption within Odisha’s government departments. The authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public service.
