Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena announced a one‑month grace period for vehicle owners to renew essential documents.
Consequently, motorists received temporary relief as the state prepared for stricter enforcement of road safety and pollution control measures.
The grace period, effective immediately, allows owners to update their Registration Certificate (RC), fitness certificate, Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, and insurance without penalties. Moreover, Minister Jena urged motorists to complete renewals within the month. He emphasised that rigorous statewide checks will begin on February 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, the announcement followed the State Transport Authority’s (STA) recent implementation of the “No PUC, No Fuel” policy. Under this directive, petrol pumps must deny fuel to vehicles lacking valid PUC certificates. Initially introduced in mid‑December, the rule will see full enforcement from January 1, 2026.
In addition, the STA directive—issued under the supervision of Minister Jena and Principal Secretary Usha Padhee—cited provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It highlighted the urgency of reducing vehicular emissions and preventing environmental degradation.
Furthermore, vehicle owners received advice to visit authorised centres or use online portals for timely renewals. These measures form part of Odisha’s broader efforts to strengthen road safety and safeguard public health through pollution control.
