The Odisha government will soon implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to track irregularities in rural housing schemes.
Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik announced the initiative on Wednesday, stating that AI will help identify ineligible beneficiaries and prevent misuse of public funds.
The move comes amid growing concerns over individuals receiving housing benefits despite already owning pucca homes or availing assistance under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Antyodaya Gruha Yojana. Minister Naik assured that strict action will be taken against such cases.
“While most beneficiaries have constructed homes after receiving aid, we are closely monitoring all projects. AI will help us pinpoint anomalies and ensure benefits reach the truly deserving,” Naik said.
In a significant announcement, the Minister revealed that 50,000 houses will be distributed under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana on September 17, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Officials have been directed to complete pending housing projects on time and act swiftly against any irregularities.
The AI rollout is part of a broader digital governance push aimed at improving service delivery and restoring public trust in welfare schemes.
