Odisha is set to implement the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program starting next month, marking its return after a gap of 24 years.
The initiative aims to enhance the accuracy and transparency of the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R.S. Gopalan announced that the final verification under SIR will be released on January 7. He emphasised that all objections raised by political parties, including Congress and BJD, have been addressed thoroughly. In fact, the BJD’s concerns were responded to twice, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to transparency.
Gopalan urged political stakeholders not to undermine the credibility of the Election Commission with baseless allegations. “Let us not shake public trust,” he stated, reinforcing the Commission’s dedication to fair electoral practices.
As part of the revision, the number of polling booths across the state will increase from 38,000 to 45,000, ensuring better accessibility and voter convenience.
