The Odisha government has announced its plan to provide reservations for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) students in technical education.
Skill Development & Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain disclosed the development earlier today.
“The state government will soon announce reservations for SEBC students in technical education. We are currently reviewing all aspects of implementation,” stated Minister Swain, who represents Paradeep in Jagatsinghpur.
Earlier this month, the Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved a proposal to allocate seats for SEBC students in government-run higher education institutions. Beginning in the 2025–26 academic year, 11.25% of seats in public universities and state-aided institutions will be reserved for SEBC students.
Alongside this, the government will continue to offer reservations of 22.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, 16.25% for Scheduled Caste (SC) students, 5% for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and 1% for Ex-Servicemen (ESM). The reservation applies to undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational, law, teacher training, and physical education courses.
The move is expected to enhance educational access for disadvantaged communities and further the government’s agenda of equitable education opportunities across Odisha.
