The Odisha government has announced plans to bolster security in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by installing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) cameras. This initiative aims to combat crime and monitor traffic violations more effectively.
Police Commissioner S. Debadatta Singh highlighted that the AI-enabled cameras would significantly enhance public safety in these rapidly urbanizing areas. The surveillance system will be deployed at key entry and exit points, including Daya River Bridge, Sundarpada-Jatni Road near Airfield Police Station, Patrapada Chowk on NH-16, Chandaka Square, Nandankanan-Baranga Chowk, Hansapal Chowk, and Sai Mandira Chowk on the Puri bypass route.
These AI-powered cameras are equipped with facial recognition capabilities to identify individuals and analyze real-time video feeds. The system will integrate with the Unified Command Centre at the police commissionerate headquarters, providing immediate alerts and notifications to field officers for prompt action.
Currently, Bhubaneswar operates approximately 883 CCTV cameras under the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) initiative.
The introduction of AI-enabled cameras is expected to enhance the efficiency of law enforcement agencies in maintaining public order and safety.
Additionally, authorities have urged residential complexes to install IP-enabled cameras to curb theft and other criminal activities.
This comprehensive approach aims to create a robust surveillance network, ensuring the safety and security of residents in both cities.
