Odisha’s Minister of Works, Law, and Excise, Prithviraj Harichandan, inaugurated a technical workshop and executive committee meeting organised by the Indian Buildings Congress (IBC) in collaboration with the state’s Public Works Department.

The event, held today in Bhubaneswar, focused on leveraging modern technology and artificial intelligence to construct sustainable, disaster-resilient infrastructure in Odisha, a state prone to natural calamities like floods, cyclones, and occasional earthquakes.

Addressing engineers and industry experts, Minister Harichandan emphasised the state government’s commitment to advanced infrastructure development. “The current era is defined by cutting-edge technology. By harnessing modern tools and eco-friendly practices, we can build infrastructure that withstands Odisha’s challenging environmental conditions,” he said. He urged the adoption of innovative construction techniques to ensure durability and sustainability, particularly for major upcoming projects like underground metro systems.

The minister also stressed the importance of waste management in construction and regular training programs to enhance engineers’ skills. “Projects like the underground metro demand the latest technology and expertise. Continuous learning is key to achieving excellence,” he added.

The workshop featured insightful discussions on sustainable construction practices. Bijay Chandra Tripathy, Chairman of IBC’s Odisha Chapter, delivered the welcome address, while IBC President Eng. C. Debnath and Founder President Eng. O.P. Goel highlighted the role of knowledge-sharing and workshops in advancing engineering expertise. Eng. M. Murugesan presented on challenges and innovative design solutions for underground metro projects.

The event concluded with Minister Harichandan unveiling a commemorative souvenir and felicitating distinguished individuals. IBC Secretary V.R. Bansal delivered the vote of thanks, marking the close of a productive session aimed at shaping Odisha’s infrastructure future.
