Women in Odisha to Receive Increased Financial Aid for Childbirth

In a significant step towards improving maternity benefits for women in Odisha, the State Cabinet has approved the implementation of a co-branded scheme—MAMATA-PMMVY.

The initiative merges the state-run MAMATA Yojana with the centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) to provide uniform benefits to women across the state. Effective from April 1, 2025, the scheme aims to enhance financial assistance for pregnant and lactating mothers.

Under the new framework, beneficiaries will receive increased financial aid for childbirth. While earlier under MAMATA Yojana, mothers received Rs.10,000 for the birth of a girl child, the revised scheme raises this amount to Rs.12,000. Mothers giving birth to a boy will continue to receive Rs. 10,000. Additionally, women belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) will be entitled to Rs.12,000 for the birth of a girl and Rs.10,000 for a boy across all live births.

The scheme also increases incentives for Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs). Previously receiving Rs. 200 and Rs. 100 respectively, their incentive amounts have been revised to Rs. 250 and Rs. 150 under MAMATA-PMMVY.

Eligibility criteria under PMMVY will be extended to the co-branded scheme to ensure consistency in beneficiary selection. Over the next five years, the government has earmarked approximately Rs. 2,670 crore for MAMATA-PMMVY, reinforcing its commitment to maternal healthcare and financial support for women.

The government aims for greater inclusivity and accessibility through this policy shift, ensuring that maternal benefits reach more women in need. The program is expected to bridge gaps in maternal welfare policies and enhance Odisha’s commitment to women’s health and well-being.
