Delhi Police’s Anti-Narcotics Squad arrested Aakash Kumar Digal, a key ganja supplier from Kandhamal district, Odisha, dealing a major blow to an interstate narcotics syndicate.
The arrest followed sustained surveillance after an earlier seizure. On March 11, police intercepted two men, Akbar and Firoj Khan, in Delhi carrying 21.7 kg of ganja and 46 grams of smack worth ₹12 lakh. During interrogation, Firoj Khan revealed that he sourced ganja in bulk from Digal in Odisha and distributed it across Delhi-NCR.
Police traced Digal to a remote forested village in Kandhamal, where ganja grows naturally. He switched off his mobile phone and went underground after the arrests. The ANS team conducted raids and maintained technical surveillance across Odisha. On March 26, officers tracked him to Bhubaneswar and apprehended him after a brief chase. He was brought to Delhi on March 28 and formally arrested.
During questioning, Digal admitted to exploiting dense forest cover and difficult terrain to evade police checks. He confessed to supplying ganja in bulk quantities for two to three years, working with contacts like Firoj Khan. His motive, police said, was quick financial gain through an organised interstate drug syndicate.
