Bhubaneswar: In a decisive move to curb the sale of illegal liquor, Odisha’s Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced today that the state will adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards illicit alcohol.
This initiative aims to enhance public safety and maintain order by cracking down on illegal distilleries and intensifying enforcement efforts.
Minister Harichandan emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating the illegal liquor trade, which has been linked to numerous health hazards and social issues. “We are determined to take stringent measures against those involved in the sale and production of illicit liquor. Our goal is to protect our citizens and ensure a safer environment,” he stated.
The new policy will include increased surveillance, stricter penalties for offenders, and comprehensive reforms in the state’s excise laws. The government also plans to collaborate with local communities to raise awareness about the dangers of consuming illegal alcohol.
This announcement comes in response to rising concerns over alcohol-related offenses and the adverse effects of illicit liquor on public health. The state government hopes that these measures will significantly reduce the prevalence of illegal alcohol and its associated risks.
The zero-tolerance policy is expected to be implemented immediately, with authorities already gearing up for extensive operations to identify and dismantle illegal liquor networks across the state.
