The Odisha government has finalised a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to redevelop BDA City Centre (formerly Nicco Park) in Bhubaneswar into an ultramodern recreational and wellness hub.
The announcement was made by Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra during the Local Self-Governance Day celebrations on Sunday.
The project, estimated to cost between ₹250–300 crore, will be executed in three phases.
Planned Features:
-
Modern lighting and landscaping of the Bhubaneswar Lake zone
-
Dedicated cycling tracks and pedestrian walkways
-
Ayurvedic and herbal park
-
Food courts and restaurants
-
Foot overbridges to improve access
The first phase will focus on infrastructure upgrades and beautification, followed by wellness-oriented facilities and leisure spaces. Officials said the redevelopment will transform Nicco Park into a central urban leisure hub for residents and tourists alike.
The Nicco Park project is linked with the ₹200 crore modernization of Storm Water Channel No. 10, which covers the City Centre and adjoining Lake Zone near Janpath. That project, already cleared by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, includes landscaped gardens, a wastewater treatment plant, and roadside greenery.
Officials said the redevelopment will not only enhance urban aesthetics but also provide a sustainable and family-friendly recreational space in the capital city.
