The Odisha government has declared that paddy procurement from farmers will cease after March 31, 2025.
This decision is part of the state’s strategy to efficiently meet its procurement targets, as announced by the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister, Krushna Chandra Patra, on Tuesday.
So far, the government has successfully collected 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, achieving approximately 90% of its intended target. Farmers are advised to deliver their harvests before the cut-off date to ensure inclusion in the government’s purchasing scheme. Any delay beyond this deadline risks exclusion from the support.
Additionally, two officials were suspended on February 16 over alleged irregularities at a paddy procurement centre in Jagatsinghpur district. The Minister emphasized efforts to end malpractice during the procurement process.
