The Odisha government is gearing up for a stringent crackdown on corruption, with action planned against officials across all levels — from clerks and peons to senior officers, including those holding the rank of chief engineers.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Saturday that a comprehensive list of corrupt officers is being prepared. He assured that the government will not hesitate to impose exemplary punishments on those found guilty.
“This is not limited to peons and clerks. Even top-level officers will not be spared. Stringent actions are being taken against those involved in corruption, and this is quite visible. Our government is committed to corruption-free governance, and we will try to eradicate corruption wherever possible,” Harichandan asserted.
The Minister also said the state has adopted a strict approach against organised crime, ensuring offenders are arrested within 24 to 48 hours and produced before court without delay. He noted that the overall crime rate has declined compared to last year.
Raising concern over the increasing threat of psychotropic chemical drugs, Harichandan described it as a “serious menace” for the state. He added that the government has already initiated steps to counter the challenge effectively.
The move signals the state government’s intent to send a strong message of zero tolerance towards corruption and crime, ensuring greater accountability within the system.
