In a significant move to support farmers, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed an extension of the registration deadline for the 2025-26 Kharif paddy procurement season.
The decision was made following a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, where it was noted that over 11.50 lakh farmers have already registered for the procurement process.
Initially, the registration process, which began on July 19, 2025, was scheduled to conclude on August 20, 2025. However, keeping the interests of farmers in mind, the state government has extended the deadline. This extension aims to allow more farmers to participate in the Kharif paddy procurement, which is set to commence on November 1, 2025, and continue until March 31, 2026.
Despite a four-day delay in starting the registration process compared to last year (July 15, 2024), the response from farmers has been overwhelming, with many expressing their eagerness to join the initiative. To make the process more accessible, the government has simplified registration by allowing farmers to use self-declaration forms and Aadhaar-based e-KYC. Additionally, biometric identification will be implemented during paddy sales to ensure transparency.
Farmers can register through nearby Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS), Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPS), Women Self-Help Groups, and Water Users’ Associations. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to streamlining the procurement process and ensuring maximum participation.
In a press conference held at his official residence, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced the extension and highlighted the government’s efforts to support farmers. The event was attended by notable legislators, including Bhatli MLA Irashish Acharya, Bijepur MLA Sanat Kumar Gadtia, Attabira MLA Nihar Ranjan Mahananda, and Bargarh MLA Ashwini Sarangi.
This extension and the simplified registration process are expected to boost farmer participation, ensuring a smooth and inclusive Kharif paddy procurement season in Odisha.
