The Odisha Government has cancelled 22,293 ineligible ration cards, impacting approximately 84,757 individuals across the state.
Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced the cancellation during a recent session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
The Minister explained that the ineligible ration cards were identified through routine field verification under the Odisha State Food Security Act, 2020. Cuttack district experienced the highest number of cancellations, with 2,554 ration cards affecting 9,828 individuals.
Responding to a query from BJD legislator Aswini Kumar Patra, the Minister emphasized the ongoing efforts to identify and remove ‘ghost beneficiaries’ from the system. The cancellation process aims to ensure that only eligible individuals receive the benefits of the state’s food security program.
