The Government of Odisha has announced the appointment of Shri Pradeep Kumar Jena, IAS (Retd.), as the Chairperson of the Odisha Electricity.
Regulatory Commission (OERC). This decision, made under the provisions of Sub-section 5 of Section 82 of the Electricity Act, 2003, highlights the state’s commitment to effective regulation in the energy sector.
A 1989 batch officer, Jena’s tenure will commence upon his assumption of office. With his extensive experience and distinguished service in public administration, this appointment is expected to usher in advancements in Odisha’s electricity regulatory framework.
This position had been vacant since Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, the former Chairperson, retired. To fill the vacancy, the Energy Department issued a notification in January and invited applications. Ultimately, Shri Jena was chosen to lead the commission starting February 26, 2023, when he was also appointed as the Chief Secretary of the State.
