Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati paid tribute to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, highlighting his monumental contributions to India’s nation-building efforts.
Speaking at the Good Governance Day celebrations held at the Abhishek Hall in Lok Bhavan on Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, the Governor described Vajpayee’s tenure as a transformative era in infrastructure, connectivity, and good governance.
The Governor emphasised that Vajpayee’s visionary initiatives, such as the Golden Quadrilateral project, the extensive expansion of national highways, and the construction of four-lane roads across the country, remain inextricably linked to his legacy. “These groundbreaking steps not only enhanced connectivity but also accelerated economic growth in multiple sectors,” he said. He noted that communities along these highways continue to attribute their economic progress and improved mobility to Vajpayee’s farsighted vision.
Shedding light on Vajpayee’s commitment to rural development, the Governor praised the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), which ensured all-weather road connectivity to villages. This initiative revolutionised rural economies and integrated remote areas into the mainstream of development.
The Governor also recalled Vajpayee’s role in long-term developmental projects, including the river interlinking initiative. He shared a personal anecdote, mentioning that a dedicated task force was formed for this purpose, and he had the privilege of serving as a member.
Describing the late leader as a visionary statesman, eloquent orator, and respected figure who transcended party lines, the Governor said Vajpayee left behind an enduring tradition of inclusive development and good governance that continues to inspire the nation.
The event included floral tributes to Vajpayee’s portrait. Among those present were the Governor’s Commissioner-cum-Secretary Smt. Rupa Roshan Sahu, along with officials and staff from Lok Bhavan.
