Odisha celebrates an extraordinary milestone, crossing the one-million mark in the creation of “Lakhpati Didis” under its pioneering women’s empowerment initiative.
More than 10 lakh members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural Odisha have already benefited from this transformative program, which exemplifies the resilience and talent of women, particularly in remote and tribal areas.
The initiative combines financial aid, capacity building, skill enhancement, financial literacy, and market linkages to empower women and drive economic prosperity. To capture income data for potential Lakhpati Didis, the Government of India introduced the LokOS web portal, ensuring efficient monitoring and verification at the grassroots level.
Odisha now ranks second in the country for the successful implementation of Lakhpati Didi initiatives, a testament to the state government’s dedication to the socio-economic development of women. Each success story highlights the unwavering spirit of rural women, paving the way toward a self-reliant Odisha.
