Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today immersed himself in the sacred spirit of Kartika Habisyali Brata 2025, joining thousands of devoted women at the Brundavati Niwas in Puri.
Describing their unwavering fast as the “moral backbone of Odisha” and a living emblem of Odia culture and identity, the CM announced a groundbreaking digital registration system for these women starting next year, complete with integrated medical and emergency services.
Speaking at the event’s culmination, Majhi emphasised the profound significance of Kartika month in Odia tradition—a period steeped in self-discipline, compassion, and devotion. “For centuries, our Odia mothers have upheld this vow of austerity, embodying the ethical strength that defines our state,” he said, underscoring how their bhakti (devotion) inspires societal harmony and progress.
In a major policy reveal, the Chief Minister declared the launch of a dedicated digital portal for Habisyali from 2026 onward. This initiative aims to streamline registration, ensuring seamless access to healthcare, urgent aid, and other support during the month-long observance. “This is our commitment to honouring their sacrifices with modern convenience and care,” Majhi affirmed.
Majhi also reiterated the government’s vision for Puri, not just as a spiritual hub but as a global beacon of faith. “Puri is more than a pilgrimage site; it’s the soul of Odia devotion. We are pledged to elevate it into a world-class religious city, with its declaration as a municipal corporation marking the first step,” he stated, highlighting ongoing infrastructure upgrades to blend tradition with urban excellence.
Expressing optimism, the CM hoped their prayers would shower blessings on Odisha, guiding the state toward peace and prosperity. He called on all citizens to embrace the teachings of Lord Jagannath—equality, empathy, and unity.
This year, the state has ramped up support for approximately 2,500 Habisyalis, providing accommodation and meals at five designated venues: Brundavati Niwas, Bagala Dharmasala, Railway Tourist Complex, Railway Kalyan Mandap, and Mochisahi Kalyan Mandap.
The government has allocated Rs 3.30 crore for these arrangements—an increase of Rs 70 lakh over last year—bolstering volunteer networks, police security, medical teams, and assistance services to prioritise the women’s comfort and safety.
Wrapping up his address, Majhi paid obeisance to the habisyalis, posed for photos with them, and engaged in candid discussions about their needs. The event saw the presence of dignitaries, including Puri MP Dr Sambit Patra, Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Puri Sadar MLA Sunil Kumar Mohanty, Brahmagiri MLA Upasana Mohapatra, and District Collector Dibyajyoti Parida.
Satyavadi MLA Om Prakash Mishra delivered the welcome address, while Pipili MLA Ashrit Pattnaik extended thanks.
