Bhubaneswar: On the auspicious occasion of Nuakhai festival, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik extended warm wishes to all.
In a video message, Patnaik said, “I extend my Nuakhai Juhar to all of you. I wish happiness and prosperity for you and your family on this occasion. May Maa Samaleswari bless all. Nuakhai is not just a festival, it is our identity. Identity of our art, culture, tradition, and brotherhood.”
“A society is greater than an individual. An individual develops only within society. This is the message of Nuakhai. Let us enjoy this great festival of our soil; spread happiness and work to make everyone’s life happier,” he added.

Know as the ‘Festival of Harvest’, Nuakhai Juhar is one of the most important festivals of Western Odisha and Simdega in Jharkhand.
The name ‘Nuakhai’ is a combination of two words, ‘Nua’ meaning new and ‘khai’ which means food. When putting together, Nuakhai stands for new rice, further suggesting that the farmers in possession of newly harvested rice.
