Bhubaneswar: Illegal infiltration from Bangladesh has become a significant concern for Odisha, with a total of 3,738 infiltrators identified across the state, as reported by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi in the Odisha Assembly on Monday. The data was presented in response to a question raised by MLA Manas Dutta.
District-wise Breakdown:
Bhadrak: 199
Kendrapara: 1,649
Bhubaneswar: 17
Jagatsinghpur: 1,112
Malkangiri: 655
Nabarangpur: 106
The infiltration issue is a growing concern, particularly due to Odisha’s expansive coastline, which makes it susceptible to illegal migration. Over the last decade, 41 criminal cases involving Bangladeshi nationals have been registered in the state, further highlighting the need for stronger border security.
Authorities are now facing mounting pressure to implement stricter surveillance and legal actions. Plans are underway to improve coordination with central agencies, including verification drives and deportation processes, to manage and address this security threat effectively.
