Odisha is expected to witness heavy rainfall, accompanied by intense thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds over the coming week due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions, according to official reports on Monday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning across the state for Monday, cautioning of potential thunderstorms and wind speeds reaching 40–50 km/h in isolated areas.
Addressing public concerns, weather scientists have confirmed that the current low-pressure system is not expected to develop into a cyclone. Sarat Chandra Sahu, a senior meteorologist, clarified that no cyclone alerts have been issued by the IMD, and the prevailing conditions are consistent with pre-monsoon activity.
The southwest monsoon, which has already advanced into the northeastern states, is likely to reach Odisha in the coming days. Although slightly delayed, its onset is anticipated soon.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and take standard safety precautions as the weather system continues to influence the region.
