The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for dense fog in Sundargarh, Koraput, and Kandhamal districts of Odisha for December 17 and 18, 2025.
The forecast indicates fog formation at one or two places in these districts, creating potential risks for commuters and travellers.
IMD officials stated that visibility may drop significantly during early morning hours. Drivers and residents must remain alert while travelling on highways and rural roads. The advisory urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during peak fog hours and to use fog lights and reflective gear for safety.
The warning comes as part of IMD’s regular monitoring of winter weather patterns in Odisha. Dense fog often disrupts road transport, delays flights, and affects daily routines. Authorities emphasised that precautionary measures can reduce accidents and ensure smoother travel.
Police and local administrations are prepared to manage traffic in affected districts. Health experts also advised residents to protect themselves from cold-related ailments, as foggy conditions often coincide with temperature drops. Farmers in Koraput and Kandhamal received alerts to safeguard crops and livestock during low visibility periods.
IMD confirmed that dry weather will prevail across Odisha during this time. No rainfall activity is expected, and temperatures may remain steady. The department continues to track fog intensity and will update forecasts if conditions change.
Residents in Sundargarh, Koraput, and Kandhamal must stay informed through official bulletins. The yellow warning highlights moderate risk, and adherence to safety guidelines remains essential.
