In the wake of Rahul Gandhi’s critical remarks during his Odisha visit concerning India’s constitutional values and recent events surrounding Odisha’s Rath Yatra, senior BJP leaders have launched a scathing response.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan dismissed claims linking the delay in Rath pulling to corporate influence, notably the Adani Group. He clarified, “The delay occurred because of Balabhadra’s Rath turning, not due to Adani. Congress and BJD are spreading misinformation.”
Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari echoed similar sentiments, labelling Congress as the “party that bloodied the Constitution.” He highlighted the Emergency era as a time when political opposition was crushed, parties were banned, and activists were jailed. Using sharp metaphors, he said Rahul’s posturing resembled “a cat seeking pilgrimage after devouring hundreds of mice.”
BJP MLA Pradip Purohit focused on Congress’s historic governance in Odisha, referencing past incidents like the Chhabirani case and asserting, “People aren’t in a position to even listen to Rahul anymore. Congress ruled Odisha for decades, yet failed to uphold justice.”
The BJP also emphasised that the Rath Yatra delay had no links to Adani, calling Congress’s claims baseless. The Odisha government has taken the matter seriously and launched an inquiry, promising a detailed report for public transparency.
As the political tug-of-war escalates, the BJP aims to challenge Congress’s narrative, reinforcing its stance on tradition, governance, and constitutional integrity.
