Nomination scrutiny for the Nuapada Bypoll concluded today, confirming 14 candidates as valid contenders for the 2025 assembly election.
A total of 19 candidates had submitted their nomination papers. After thorough verification at the office of the Returning Officer and Sub-Collector, five nominations were rejected. The rejected candidates include Rajaram Sahu from Bahujan Samaj Party, Sitaram Behera from Rashtriya Parivartan Dal, and three independents—Purushottam Behera, Kamal Kumar Chhatria, and Bhujabal Adabanga.
The Nuapada Bypoll will feature candidates from major political parties. BJP’s Jay Dholakia, BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria, and Congress’s Ghasiram Majhi have successfully cleared the scrutiny process. Their nominations remain strong and valid.
Other confirmed candidates include Ramakant Hati from Samajwadi Party, Hemant Tandi from Bahujan Mukti Party, and Shukadhar Dandasena from Odisha Janata Dal. Eight independent candidates also secured their place on the ballot.
Election General Observer Prakash Bindu and Returning Officer Surmi Soren were present during the scrutiny process, ensuring transparency and adherence to electoral norms.
The Nuapada Bypoll has drawn attention due to the participation of prominent parties and a diverse set of independents. With the nomination process complete, the electoral battle now moves to campaigning and public engagement. The final list of candidates sets the stage for a competitive and closely watched contest in Odisha’s political landscape.
