The sacred Banakalagi Niti will take place at Srimandir in Puri on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Temple priests will perform the ritual with devotion and precision, reinforcing the spiritual essence of the Jagannath tradition.
During the ceremony, servitors will apply natural colours and pastes to the facial features of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. This ritual symbolises renewal, devotion, and the rejuvenation of divine energy. Moreover, it highlights the temple’s commitment to preserving age-old traditions.
According to temple administration, the Banakalagi Niti will begin after the completion of the second bhog at the Bhog Mandap. Consequently, public darshan will remain suspended from 5 PM until 10 PM. This restriction ensures the confidential conduct of the sacred procedures and maintains the sanctity of the temple environment.
Furthermore, officials have urged devotees and tourists to plan their visit accordingly. They emphasised that respecting the discipline of the Banakalagi ceremony reflects devotion and reverence toward the deities. In addition, the ritual continues to strengthen the cultural and spiritual heritage of Odisha.
Temple authorities have also assured that all necessary arrangements will support the smooth execution of the ritual. They will enforce restrictions to safeguard the convenience and safety of pilgrims. Finally, Darshan will resume promptly at 10 PM, allowing devotees to seek blessings after the completion of the ceremony.
