Speaking at the NDTV Defence Summit 2025, his comments came amid rising trade tensions with the United States and evolving relations with China.

Singh reiterated that self-reliance is not just an advantage but a necessity in the current geopolitical climate. He announced significant progress in the indigenization of India’s defense capabilities, highlighting the recent commissioning of two domestically designed Nilgiri-class stealth frigates, the INS Himgiri and INS Udaygiri.
He stated that the Indian Navy has committed to only procuring future warships made within the country. The minister also mentioned that India’s indigenously built defense system, the Sudarshan Chakra, would be unveiled soon.
