In a significant move ahead of the annual Rath Yatra, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has issued an official letter to the Puri Municipality, strongly urging the preservation of the sacred Sharadhabali area.
Highlighting the site’s deep spiritual significance, particularly during the Rath Yatra when the Lord’s chariot halts here en route to Gundicha Temple, the administration has emphasised that the sanctity of this space must remain untouched.
The letter strictly advises against the use of Sharadhabali for any alternative purposes, reinforcing its religious and emotional importance to lakhs of devotees. “Shardhabali is not to be repurposed for other functions—it must remain sacred and revered,” the administration asserted.
It also recommends heightened attention from civic authorities towards this sensitive zone, suggesting independent monitoring, restoration efforts, and implementation of necessary security and development measures.
The advisory comes as part of a broader initiative to reinforce traditional values and maintain cultural heritage during Odisha’s most celebrated festival. Authorities are expected to collaborate closely to ensure the site’s sanctity is preserved during the high footfall Rath Yatra period.
