This year’s Chandan Yatra in Puri will take place without the usual display of fireworks, as the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has imposed a ban on firecrackers. The move is aimed at preventing any untoward incidents, following a mishap during last year’s festivities.
In a significant step towards devotee and servitor safety, the SJTA also announced the provision of health insurance for all participants involved in the yatra. Additionally, two first aid centres will be set up at the Narendra Puskarini, the sacred water tank where the ritual takes place.
These measures were finalized during a recent meeting of the Srimandir Chhattisa Nijog, the traditional governing body of the Jagannath Temple. SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee confirmed the safety-focused updates and gave a green signal to begin preparations.
Apart from Chandan Yatra, schedules for Niladri Mahodaya, Lord Narasimha’s birthday, and Bhai Bauri Tithi were also finalized during the meeting.
The changes signal a shift towards more responsible and secure celebrations, without compromising the spiritual grandeur of the revered tradition.
