Actor Nina Dobrev is making headlines again after sharing a TikTok video that fans believe references her recent breakup with Olympic snowboarder Shaun White. The couple, who began dating in early 2020 and later got engaged, officially ended their relationship in September 2025.
Nina Dobrev’s Viral TikTok Using Ariana Grande’s “Break Free”
On November 13, Nina posted a TikTok where she lip-syncs to Ariana Grande’s 2014 hit Break Free. The moment that caught everyone’s attention? Nina emphasizes the lyrics:
“If you want it, take it. I should have said it before.”
In the video, she also highlights her ring-free finger, then mouths the next line:
“Tried to hide it, fake it. I can’t pretend anymore.”
Before the clip ends, she looks into the camera and flips her middle finger — a gesture viewers interpret as a pointed message.
This is not the first time Nina has shared posts that seem to touch on the breakup. Earlier this year, she lip-synced lyrics about people trying to “fix” a man, along with another clip jokingly asking, “How do you sleep at night knowing people don’t like you?” followed by a playful punchline.
Public Appearance After the Viral Clip
Two days after the TikTok gained traction, Nina appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of Eternity. She walked the red carpet without the 5-carat engagement ring Shaun White had proposed with.
A Look Back at Nina and Shaun’s Relationship
Nina and Shaun first connected in January 2020, meeting during a New Year’s celebration. By May 2020, the couple confirmed their relationship on Instagram after a bike ride sparked early dating rumors.
Friends close to them had described their relationship as loving and supportive. Ahead of last year’s New Year’s Eve, a source shared that the two were “deeply in love” and openly discussing their future.
However, the couple decided to go their separate ways in September 2025, marking the end of their five-year engagement.
