In the second T20I of the five-match series, New Zealand outperformed Pakistan with a thrilling five-wicket victory in a rain-shortened match at the University Oval on Tuesday.
The win gives New Zealand a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.
Pakistan, batting first in a 15-over game, managed to post 135 for nine, with captain Salman Agha leading the charge with an impressive 46 off 28 balls. Contributions from Shadab Khan (26 off 14) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (22 not out off 14) added valuable runs. New Zealand’s bowlers, including Jimmy Neesham and Ben Sears, each took two wickets.
New Zealand’s innings were ignited by a remarkable opening partnership between Tim Seifert and Finn Allen, who launched an aggressive attack. Seifert smashed 45 off 22 balls, while Allen contributed 38 off 16, with their powerful six-hitting setting the tone. Despite a mid-innings wobble, Mitch Hay’s composed unbeaten 21 ensured New Zealand reached the target with 11 balls to spare.
New Zealand will aim to seal the series in the third match, scheduled for Friday in Auckland.
