Bhubaneswar: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued an alert for another low-pressure area over southeast Bangladesh and neighbourhood. The low-pressure area is most likely to intensify into a depression over coastal West Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
Taking to X, IMD posted, “A low-pressure area has been formed over southeast Bangladesh and neighbourhood in the night of September 12 and lay over the same region at 5:30 of September 13; likely to intensify into a depression over coastal West Bengal & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.”
The new low pressure is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to Odisha. The heavy rainfall activities are likely to occur till September 15.
Speaking to media persons, IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty said, “There will be heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 13, 14 and 15. We have given warning for thunderstorms and lightning. There will be thunderstorm and lightning mostly in coastal regions and other areas like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts.”
“Most parts of Odisha will experience light to moderate rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Kalahandi and few other districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Rayagada and Gajapati,” she added.
