New Delhi: With only a week remaining until the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024, the confusion over exam centres remains unresolved for many students.
On the evening of August 4, numerous NEET-PG 2024 candidates were notified by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) via email about the reallocation of their examination cities, a move prompted by repeated requests to increase the number of test centres.
Previously, there was significant discontent among NEET-PG aspirants, as many received assignments to exam centres located over 1,000 kilometres from their residences, often not among their top four preferred cities indicated during the application process.
The issue was particularly acute in Kerala and mountainous regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, which have suffered from severe weather conditions.
A collective of students, activists, organizations, and politicians appealed to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, advocating for more test centres and the assignment of exam cities closer to the candidates’ hometowns.
The NBEMS had reportedly reduced the number of test centres to ensure the integrity of the examination process, particularly following the NEET-UG paper leak scandal.
Now, with the examination imminent, select candidates have been reassigned to new centres. According to the NBEMS’s email, additional test centres have been secured to “accommodate the maximum possible candidates within their States of Correspondence address,” and no further changes to these newly assigned centres will be entertained.
