Indian javelin ace Neeraj Chopra launched his 2025 season with a strong performance, clinching gold at the Potchefstroom Invitational in South Africa on April 16.
Competing in a six-man field, Chopra delivered a best throw of 84.52m, topping local talent Douw Smit, who finished second with a mark of 82.44m.
While the distance was below his personal best of 89.94m, Chopra appeared in solid form as he prepared for upcoming elite-level competitions. His next major challenge will be the Doha Diamond League on May 16, where he will look to further refine his technique under new coach Jan Železný.
Chopra, a two-time Olympic medalist, aims to breach the elusive 90m mark this season. With an eye on defending his title at the World Championships in Tokyo later this year, his latest outing is an encouraging start toward achieving that goal.
