Former India captain and cricketing icon MS Dhoni has been officially inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, joining an illustrious list of Indian greats who have received the prestigious honour.
The announcement was made on Monday, marking a significant milestone in Dhoni’s storied career.
Dhoni, widely regarded as one of the finest captains in cricket history, becomes the 11th Indian to receive this recognition. His induction comes alongside several other cricketing stalwarts, including Matthew Hayden, Daniel Vettori, Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, Sana Mir, and Sarah Taylor.
Expressing his gratitude, Dhoni said, “It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”
A Legendary Career:
Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020, following India’s loss in the 2019 World Cup semifinal against New Zealand. However, he continues to play franchise cricket, leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
As a captain, Dhoni is the only player in history to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies:
-
The 2007 ICC T20 World Cup
-
The 2011 ICC ODI World Cup
-
The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy
In his 350 ODI appearances, Dhoni amassed 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential wicketkeeper-batsmen in the game’s history. His leadership style, composure under pressure, and ability to finish games earned him the nickname “Captain Cool.”
