Former India captain MS Dhoni created a light-hearted moment during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final when he calmly stopped his wife Sakshi Dhoni from celebrating a wicket that never actually happened.
The moment took place at Wankhede Stadium, where India faced England national cricket team in a high-stakes semi-final clash.
Dhoni, who had attended the wedding of Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, earlier in the day, arrived at the stadium with Sakshi to watch the crucial encounter.
Viral Moment in the Stands
During the 18th over of England’s innings, India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full-length delivery to Sam Curran.
The batter pushed the ball back toward the bowler, but it bounced before reaching Bumrah. Watching from the stands, Sakshi mistakenly thought it was a caught-and-bowled dismissal and jumped up to celebrate.
Dhoni, sitting right behind her, quickly gestured for her to calm down and pointed out that the ball had bounced. The humorous exchange was captured on camera and soon went viral across social media platforms.
Bumrah’s Over Changes the Match
Although the wicket did not fall, Bumrah’s disciplined bowling proved crucial for India. The fast bowler conceded just six runs in the 18th over, building pressure on England’s batters Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran.
The pressure continued in the following over when Hardik Pandya delivered an economical penultimate over, conceding only nine runs.
India eventually sealed a seven-run victory, securing a place in the final of the tournament.
Captain Praises Bumrah
After the match, India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised Bumrah for delivering under pressure once again.
Suryakumar highlighted the pacer’s ability to step up in crucial moments, noting that Bumrah’s performance helped India turn the match in their favor during the closing overs.
