Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister-elect Mohan Charan Majhi will take the oath of office along with his two deputies Pravati Parida and K. V. Singh Deo today at Janata Maidan Bhubaneswar at 4:55 PM.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was sworn in as PM for the third consecutive term last week, will attend his swearing-in ceremony.
The first legislature party meeting of the newly elected members of Odisha took place on June 11 in which Mr Majhi, a four-time MLA from Keonjhar, was elected as the Legislative party leader in the presence of senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupender Yadav.
The oath-taking ceremony, earlier scheduled to for June 10, was rescheduled to today as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led new NDA government took oath on June 9 and Mr. Modi was expected to be busy meeting his new cabinet colleagues on June 10.
The Commissionerate Police put in place necessary security arrangements for the grand event of the swearing-in ceremony of the new Odisha Chief Minister.
In the security arrangements, a total of 67 platoons of police force will be deployed. Three anti-terrorism squads, one Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) unit, a dog squad, and anti-sabotage teams have been engaged to ensure proper security at the venue, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said.
In the recently concluded Assembly polls, the BJP secured a comfortable majority in the 147-member Assembly, winning 78 seats. The party went to the elections under the leadership of Mr. Modi without naming a chief ministerial candidate.
