The body of a missing youth was discovered in an abandoned well nestled within the forested area near the new Kantabanji bus stand, close to the old cement factory road in Bolangir district.
The deceased has been identified by his family as Kunj Majhi, a resident of Dumerchuan village. According to relatives, Kunj had been missing for approximately 10 days, prompting them to file a missing person complaint at the Kantabanji police station.
On Saturday, locals noticed a suspicious sight inside the forest well and alerted authorities. Kunj’s family was called to the spot and identified the body based on the clothing. Kantabanji police, accompanied by a forensic team from Balangir, launched an on-site investigation. Efforts were made to retrieve the body and gather evidence from the scene.
As per family sources, Kunj had received a phone call on the day of his disappearance and stepped out of the house, never to return. His uncle, Indra Majhi, strongly suspects foul play and has alleged that Kunj was murdered.
Kantabanji SDPO Laxmi Narayan Marandi confirmed that further investigation is ongoing. Present at the scene were the Kantabanji Tahsildar Biswanath Khalkho, police inspector Rasmita Behera, fire department officials, and local villagers.
The mysterious circumstances surrounding the death have sparked tension in the locality, as police continue to unravel the facts behind this suspected homicide.
