Police recovered the hanging body of a missing man from a tree in a forest nursery between Malapada and Patamara villages in Balangir district.
The deceased, identified as Krishna Parabhoi (55) from Patalpada village under Haldi Panchayat, had gone missing eight days ago. On Tuesday, Dwitiyabhai Bhoyi from Malapada visited the nursery with his son to collect wood. He spotted a body hanging from a tree and immediately informed local journalists.
Journalists reached the spot and alerted Muribahal police. Officers arrived and began collecting identification details. Krishna’s family later confirmed the identity of the body.
Police found a plastic rope around Krishna’s neck. His knees touched the ground. A towel hung from the tree, and a bag and slippers lay nearby. The exact cause of death remains unknown.
Krishna had a history of mild mental illness. He had gone missing before and returned home after four days. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Based on inputs from his son Bikash Parabhoi (37), police sent the body for autopsy to Titilagarh. On Wednesday, officers handed over the body to the family.
SI Pramod Kumar Pradhan confirmed the recovery and said police registered an unnatural death case (No. 17/25). The investigation continues.
Muribahal IIC Sanatan Sahu stated that the autopsy report will reveal the actual cause of death. The case has raised concerns in the local community, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding Krishna’s disappearance and death.
The incident adds to growing worries over missing persons and mental health awareness in rural Odisha. The phrase “Missing Man Found Dead” now echoes through Balangir as police work to uncover the truth.
