The decomposed body of a 22-year-old engineering student, Gaur Bipra from Rajgangpur, was recovered from the restricted area of Badalgiri waterfall under Gurundia police limits in Sundargarh district.
The youth had been reported missing since the 7th of last month.
Responding to information from tourists, Gurundia police and fire services retrieved the body. The body had become trapped among tree branches placed to block debris, and was only noticed when it floated into view yesterday.
Distressingly, the victim’s head, arms, and one leg were entirely decomposed, with only the torso and part of another leg remaining intact. Authorities placed the remains in polythene for transport and today moved it to Bonai Sub-divisional Hospital for autopsy.
The case has sparked public concern over how tourists continue to access prohibited areas and why the local administration has not taken stricter measures. Further investigation is underway.
