A disturbing incident has surfaced at the renowned Mukteshwar Temple in Sambalpur, where a 35-year-old temple priest has been accused of raping a minor girl.

The alleged crime took place on Sunday afternoon within the temple premises, leading to immediate police intervention.

According to reports, the victim was resting in the temple courtyard when the accused priest allegedly committed the crime. Following the complaint lodged at the Jamankira police station, authorities have detained the suspect and initiated an investigation. The accused priest is undergoing medical examination and interrogation, with legal proceedings expected to follow.

The Mukteshwar Temple Trust Board and management committee have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, sources indicate that a meeting will be held to discuss further actions. Meanwhile, forensic teams have arrived at the temple to collect evidence, ensuring a thorough investigation.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from intellectual circles and the local community, demanding strict action against the accused. With the temple preparing for upcoming religious festivities, including the Mukteshwar Baba and Goddess Parvati’s ceremonial wedding, the administration is expected to conduct purification rituals before proceeding with the celebrations.
