In a deeply disturbing incident, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two male relatives—her cousin brothers—during the early hours of October 22 in Puri district.
The assault took place while the victim and her 7-year-old sister were alone at home, as their family had gone to witness the Goddess Kali idol immersion procession.
According to police reports, the accused—both employed at a tent house—entered the house around 4 AM and committed the crime. The girl disclosed the incident to her family upon their return and later filed a complaint at Chandanpur police station.
The Chandanpur police have detained both accused and initiated a formal investigation. A medical examination of the victim has been conducted, and further inquiries are underway.
Preliminary findings suggest prior familial disputes between the victim’s and the accused’s families.
